Mr James is a bespoke tailor in Playa del Rey, on the west side of Los Angeles. On 11 September 2026 his website was getting about 11 sessions a day and 13 visits a week from search. By 19 October it was at about 43 sessions a day, search visits had more than doubled, and the business held the number one share of local voice in the Google map pack for "bespoke tailor" across a 7x7 grid of the area. Nineteen of the 50 keywords we track sit in the top 10. When we ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overview the questions a man looking for a tailor would ask, Mr James is named in 10 of 28 answers. That is five and a half weeks of work, and it is the case I point people to when they ask what the $199 per month SEO and AEO tool actually does.
I am writing this up because an SEO case study in Los Angeles usually arrives with a vague before and after and a lot of adjectives. I want to show you the starting line, the dates, what was done in plain terms, and where it stands now. If you run a local service business and wonder whether search and AI answers are worth the money, this is the clearest answer I can give.
Where Mr James started
Mr James had been cutting suits for years and had a site that mostly existed to confirm he was real. A handful of pages, a booking link, a few photos. Nothing on it that Google or an AI assistant could use to answer "who is a good bespoke tailor near Playa del Rey" or "how much does a bespoke suit cost in Los Angeles". Eleven sessions a day is what you get from people who already know your name. Thirteen search visits a week told me the site was close to invisible to anyone who did not.
The map pack was the other gap. In Los Angeles a tailor lives or dies on the three businesses Google shows above the organic results, and Mr James was not showing up consistently in his own neighbourhood, let alone the wider west side.
We switched the tool on 11 September. I did not add a separate retainer, a link building package or a content team. Everything below is what the $199 tool does on its own, with me reviewing the output each week.
What was done, in plain terms
An article a day and landing pages for each neighbourhood
The tool publishes an expert article every day. For Mr James that means pieces written the way he talks to a client in the fitting room: what a bespoke suit costs and why, how many fittings to expect, which fabric holds up at a Los Angeles summer wedding, how a tailor job differs from a simple alteration. Alongside the articles it built landing pages for the neighbourhoods he actually serves, Playa del Rey, Marina del Rey, Westchester, Culver City, Santa Monica and the rest of the west side, each written for that area rather than one page with the name swapped. By 19 October there were 42 pages and 54 articles live. Every one of them is something Google can rank and an AI assistant can quote.
Fixes applied automatically
The tool scans the site and scores it out of 100 across seven categories: site health, speed, content, schema, Google visibility, AI answers and authority. When the scan finds something broken, it applies the fix. On Mr James that meant missing and duplicated title tags, thin meta descriptions, images with no alt text, redirect chains and slow pages that needed their images compressed. You can run it in approve each mode if you want to sign off on every change. Mr James trusted it to just go, and I read the change log on Mondays.
Schema and internal links
Schema is the structured markup that tells search engines and AI models exactly what a page is: a local business, a service, a set of questions and answers, an article by a named person. The tool wrote it and keeps it current across every page. Then it stitched the site together with internal links, so the article about suit fabrics points to the bespoke suit service page, which points to the Playa del Rey landing page, which points to the booking page. That is how a pile of pages becomes something a search engine understands as one business with depth.
Google Business Profile posts
The map pack result came largely from here. The tool posts to the Google Business Profile on a schedule, keeps the categories, services and hours accurate, and makes sure the profile and the website say the same things about the same neighbourhoods. Number one share of local voice on a 7x7 grid means that across 49 points spread over the area, Mr James appears in the map pack for "bespoke tailor" more often than any competitor does.
Disavowing a spam link wave
About four weeks in, a wave of spam links pointed at the site from junk domains. This happens to sites that start to move, and left alone it can hold you back. The tool flagged it in the authority category, compiled the list, and we filed a disavow with Google so those links are ignored.
Weekly rank and AI answer tracking
Every week we track 50 keywords in Los Angeles and ask the five AI assistants the same 28 questions. That is where the 19 of 50 in the top 10 and the 10 of 28 AI answers come from. The point is not the report. The point is that next week's articles and fixes are chosen from what moved and what did not, so the work compounds.
The numbers, side by side
On 11 September the site had about 11 sessions a day and 13 search visits a week, no consistent presence in the map pack, and no mentions from AI assistants. On 19 October it had about 43 sessions a day, search visits more than doubled, the number one share of local voice in the map pack for "bespoke tailor" on a 7x7 grid, 19 of 50 tracked keywords in the top 10, a mention in 10 of 28 AI assistant answers, and 42 pages and 54 articles live. One new client a month covers the tool many times over.
What I would tell another local business
Three things. First, the volume of content matters more than people want to hear. One good article a month does not move a site in a city like Los Angeles. One good article a day, every day, for five weeks, does. The tool exists because I could not find a way to do that by hand at a price a tailor could pay.
Second, the fixes and the schema are boring and they are the foundation. Mr James did not rank because of a clever trick. He ranked because the site was clean, every page said clearly what it was, and the whole thing was wired together.
Third, AI answers are a real channel now. Ten of 28 is not a majority yet, but a year ago that number would have been zero for almost any small business. People ask ChatGPT where to get a suit made the way they used to open Yelp, and the businesses named in those answers are the ones that published the pages the models learned from.
If you want the agency version of this, where I am hands on with strategy, link building and the rest, that lives on our SEO and AEO agency page. The tool is the self running version at $199 a month, month to month after the first ninety days. And if your real question is about social rather than search, start with what we do as a social media marketing agency in Los Angeles, because the two feed each other.
Questions people ask
How much did the Mr James work cost?
The tool is a flat $199 per month, and that is all Mr James pays. There was no setup fee, no separate content retainer and no link building package on top. Everything in this case study, the articles, landing pages, fixes, schema, Google Business Profile posts, disavow and weekly tracking, is included in that price.
Is the content written by AI?
The articles are drafted by the tool from what the business actually does, then reviewed before and after they go live. They are written in the owner's voice, about real services and real neighbourhoods, with schema that names the author. Google and the AI assistants reward useful, specific pages, and that is what we publish.
How long before a site like this moves?
Mr James went from 11 sessions a day to 43 in five and a half weeks, and the map pack result came inside that window. Every site starts from a different place, so I ask for ninety days before judging. After that it is month to month, so the results have to keep earning the $199.
Does this work outside Los Angeles?
Yes. The tool tracks rankings in your city, builds landing pages for your neighbourhoods and posts to your Google Business Profile wherever you are. Most of our clients are in Los Angeles and Orange County, but the method is the same for a tailor in Playa del Rey or a clinic in Austin.
What does AEO mean?
AEO is answer engine optimisation: getting your business named when someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity or Google AI Overview a question you should be the answer to. It is the same foundation as SEO, clean pages, clear schema and real content, measured weekly against the actual questions people ask.
